Base metals sales topped the 1 billion US dollars mark during the world's second largest mining house's 2010 third quarter - some 183 million US dollars higher than the previous three month reporting period. Over all, this made up a small portion of Vale Ltd's total operating revenue of 14.5 billion US dollars for the three months ending September 30, a figure which represented the miner's best ever financial result.
