Opening up greenfield areas to exploration through its much-touted Program for Accelerated Exploration (PACE) initiative five years ago has not only led to an array of new discoveries in South Australia, but has also seen the state emerge as the country's geothermal hotspot. ACCORDING TO PIRSA Mineral Resources Group director Dr Ted Tyne, more than 700 million dollars is committed to geothermal exploration in the state this year, with 27 companies taking part in the hunt.
