The current economic environment is having a significant impact on Australian businesses, resulting in a rising number of cost saving measures being implemented across various industries. In particular, redeployment of employees between projects is being used extensively as a cost minimisation strategy in the resources sector. While this may assist a company that is in distress by moving staff members who are not working to capacity to a facility in need of their labour, a range of risks are associated with implementing a redeployment strategy, such as the potential for discrimination, unlawful dismissal and unfair dismissal claims being brought by employees.
