THE TASK AT hand now for the nuclear industry is to rebuild the supply chain to support increasing demand, according to Areva Australia NC's Dr Selena Ng. Holding the mantle as the only fully integrated uranium supplier across the fuel cycle, Areva has constructed more than 100 nuclear power plants around the globe since the 1970s. "Looking forward, we estimate there will be more than 300 new nuclear reactor plants constructed over the next decade," Dr Ng said. "More and more countries are turning to nuclear power as part of their energy mix." In terms of its future, Areva is building the first evolutionary pressurised reactor (EPR) in Canada, which is due to come on line in 2011.
