Gold production set to advance Exco's copper strategy

ASPIRING QUEENSLAND COPPER producer Exco Resources Ltd is set to join the gold producer ranks next year with its White Dam project in South Australia. The company had production aspirations for White Dam back in 2006, but thanks to a high copper price and market since then, it turned its focus to advancing its copper properties. It is looking to first copper production from its Cloncurry project in 2010 and is currently undertaking a definitive feasibility study, due for completion by the first quarter of 2009. Encouraged by further resource upgrades in the short term, the study will focus on a slightly larger operation of up to 3 million tonnes per annum through a concentrator facility based at the El Camp, producing around 25,000 tpa of copper in concentrate.
