MINEMAKERS LTD'S MOINA fluorite-magnetite-tungsten-tin project in north west Tasmania has the potential to become a 'company maker' with a 20 year mine life or more. Managing director Andrew Drummond described it as having a "whopping great (historical) resource" estimated by Comalco to be about 24 million tonnes that he "could see being doubled on the drilling evidence to date". Minemakers has been examining the fluorite component first, as this appeared to be the project's most valuable mineral. But Drummond said metallurgical testwork concentrating on optimising recoveries of the other minerals was about to commence. "We should be able to produce fluorite suitable for acid production and the western world is very keen to see development of a non-Chinese fluorite source," Drummond said.
