JUST BEFORE RUNNING into some serious environmental problems earlier this year, the Magellan lead mine in Western Australia was on target to becoming a 100,000 tonne per annum producer of the base metal. It was also in the process of implementing an ambitious expansion plan - a prospect which is still on the cards, but can only happen if its owners, the Canadian-based Ivernia Incorporated, manage to overcome some major transport and handling issues. In February this year, the company was on track to reach its targeted production levels of around 18,500t of lead metal concentrate for the first two quarters of 2007.
