It is hard to imagine that just four years ago Barrick Gold Corporation was considered something of a pariah amongst the global gold majors because of its hedging policy.But during the past year the Canadian mining house has literally defied all of its past critics by becoming the biggest gold miner in the world - no mean feat considering it took the crown from the savvy Newmont Mining Corporation.In January Barrick announced it had swallowed up 81 percent of fellow Canadian mining house Placer Dome Incorporated in a USdollors10 billion deal that was eventually finalised during May.
