Bulls gather at African forum

The 10th anniversary of the INDABA - Investing in Africa Conference was notable for numerous reasons, not least being a staggering jump in attendees to more than 2,500 delegates, exhibitors and speakers. More importantly, however, the event was notable for what appeared to be cautious optimism among many attendees that the strong commodity prices witnessed over the last two years are here to stay. Indeed, one banker opined that commodities were "perhaps two years into a 10 year cycle". Another suggested that it was more like "five years into a 15-year run". If strong commodity prices are in the long-term offing, then it looks as though Africa is supremely well positioned to help fill the supply gap with its incredible mineral endowment, in close proximity to Asian and European markets.
