IT WOULD BE fair to say that 2007 was a year of extremes for Canadian lead miner Ivernia Inc. In a case that was reasonably well publicised by the local and national media, the company's Magellan mine in Western Australia's east Murchison was placed on care and maintenance last April after dust emissions were reported at its harbour operations in the southern WA port town of Esperance. Ivernia's activities were subsequently probed by a six month long parliamentary inquiry (the exiled miner has yet to receive formal approval to restart production) and, as a result, its expansion plans - designed to take advantage of a robust lead price - were also put on hold.
