ON PAPER THE Bonikro gold project in Cote D'lvoire always looked like it would be a winner. During October the mine's reasonably new owners - Queensland-based Lihir Gold Ltd - began gold production at the site, marking the start of one of Africa's most anticipated modem precious metal operations. Commissioning of the processing facilities commenced in August, with around-the-clock activities coming into play in mid September.
