Ambitious task for Russian miner

THE LATEST OWNER of the Cawse nickel laterite mine in Western Australia believes there is still plenty of life in the operation yet, predicting it could go for at least the next quarter century. Originally built by the Joe Gutnick-led Centaur Mining and Exploration back in the late 1990s, Cawse was one of three high pressure acid leaching (HPAL) lateritic projects established in the state which ran into some significant (and well publicised) ramp up difficulties before its parent company slipped into administration on the back of a low nickel price.
