Research meets with early success

When it comes to exploration under cover there are two issues companies are faced with -- the technological limitations and the high costs associated with field ventures. Drilling to depths of 200-300 metres makes a very expensive exercise. CSIRO Exploration and Mining researchers led by Paul Roberts and David Gray have been making in-roads into the area of exploration under deep cover at the Australian Resources Research Centre in the Perth suburb of Kensington. According to Roberts, to be successful in looking for ore bodies under cover, companies and explorationists need to think and operate in 3D.
