PRAIRIE DOWNS METALS Ltd is encouraged by the first batch of assay results from the 2007 drill program at its self-named zinc project, situated south west of Newman in Western Australia, and hopes to be mining it by 2009. One RC drill hole (PDP168) returned an intersection of 22 metres at 4.3 percent zinc, 3.5 percent lead and 19.3 grams/tonne silver (including 2m at 25.2 percent zinc, 5.9 percent lead and 31.5 g/t silver) and 3m at 5.2 percent zinc, 9.8 percent lead and 54.5 g/t silver. Drill hole PDP169, up dip of PDP168, returned 15m at 1.3 percent zinc, 2.2 percent lead and 7.7 g/t silver, including 3m at 3.8 percent zinc, 7.6 percent lead and 26.3 g/t silver. The company had been considering an open pit operation, but a scoping study has indicated that underground mining is far more cost-effective than originally envisaged.
