IT IS TEMPTING to make apples with apples comparisons between global mining entrepreneurs Robert Friedland and Andrew Forrest, but they are, in many ways, like chalk and cheese. Both are charismatic spruikers who know how to schmooze with investors and pull in huge audiences at mineral resources conventions. And yes, each of them possesses the ability to spin a good yarn and sell their big ideas. Furthermore, they have made a lot money for a lot of people (including themselves) and pulled off some amazing deals with some of the world's largest mining companies. Finally, they have sometimes managed to polarise public opinion, with each having his fair share of followers and detractors.
