Sydney-based junior Tri Origin Minerals Ltd has successfully increased the resource estimate for its Lewis Ponds polymetallic play in central New South Wales via the use of kriging geostatistical modelling. Adopting this approach, the junior believes, allows the company to move beyond working with the much more difficult preliminary resource model. Kriging relies on the spatial correlation structure of the data to determine the weighting values instead of weighting nearby data points by some power of their inverted distance. It is a more rigorous approach to modelling, as correlation between data points determines the estimated value at an unsampled point. Lewis Ponds, which is Tri Origin's most advanced exploration play, sits 200 kilometres west of Sydney and 15 km east of the regional centre of Oranse.
