Environmental and capital cost challenges ahead for refractory gold ores

An executive of one of the world's leading gold producers told this year's ALTA Conference the challenges ahead for treating refractory gold ores around the world would include environmental matters and the ability to help contain growing operating costs in winning the gold. Robert Dunne of Newmont Mining Corporation, which has a big footprint in the Australian gold mining scene, said the introduction of pressure and biological oxidation as well as some innovations to roasting in the mid 1980s had revolutionised the way refractory ores were treated.
