Study backs staged Esperance Port upgrades

A group of aspiring iron ore producers in the Yilgarn believes that a modest expansion to the Esperance Port on Western Australia's south coast is the key to unlocking the stranded deposits. The Yilgarn Iron Producers Association (YIPA), which comprises explorers Golden West Resources, Radar Iron, Mindax, Legacy Iron Ore, Mineral Resources, Cazaly Resources and producer Cliffs Natural Resources, says an initial capacity upgrade of 10-15 million tonnes per annum and incremental rail upgrades would require only a modest capital investment and would allow ore to be shipped through the port.
