CESL Ltd, a subsidiary of Vancouver-based Teck Cominco Ltd, is at the early stage of refining a method which uses synergistic solvent extraction (SSX) to dilute nickel leach liquors containing high levels of impurities like magnesium and manganese. This allows the separation of the two base metals without the usual need for prior purification such as the standard production of a mixed hydroxide precipitation and subsequent re-leach.
