Despite a wide held expectation that the region's stainless steel market would rise in September owing to the traditional peak demand period, prices declined. End-users, though keen to restock inventories, were limited by tight credit, while supply levels bounced back to normal levels following the summer lull. In addition, costlier input prices, mainly for nickel and ferro-chrome, added to the woes of producers.
