Despite the general air of uncertainty about the future direction of the US manufacturing sector, as well as the US economy, with decisions on the federal budget and the nation's debt ceiling merely delayed, it appears as if domestic flat-rolled stainless steel mills may achieve their staged base price increase that they were seeking last month. This comes at a time when raw material surcharges, which had been falling for much of the year, are beginning to bottom out, thus pushing transaction prices upward.
