Newcrest was already the largest domestic gold producer when it sealed the transaction - a move which made it one of the globe's top 10 miners. Following the merger, the new-look organisation had reserves of 73.4 million ounces of gold, 4.7 million tonnes of copper as well as 26.7 M oz silver - ranking it fourth when it came to world gold equivalent reserves.
