Although West Australian-based Midas Resources Ltd is concentrating the bulk of its corporate efforts on becoming a gold producer, it hasn't stopped the company from looking at other minerals on the side. Following his Sydney presentation Midas managing director Rhod Grivas admitted the junior had carried out some first pass nickel exploration in an area of ultramafic rocks just east of the highly prospective Fortitude shear in WA's Lake Carey district. Located some 220 kilometres north east of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Fortitude was in the hands of Aurora Gold Ltd before it was swallowed up by Abelle Pty Ltd in 2002. The deposit currently has a resource close to 500,000 ounces and is in the process of being taken to the feasibility stage.
