Although the high carbon ferrochrome market balance is still on course to widen further this year, as nearly 2mtpy of extra capacity comes on stream, leading producers are becoming increasingly positive about their short-term pricing prospects. With roughly a month to go before negotiations on Q2 contracts begin this is hardly surprising but, for the moment at least, it has some merit.
