Pressure on the market mounted in October, causing prices to soften. Rapidly rising production in China and weak domestic demand pressed many participants to take a cautious approach. Several Chinese mills are reported to have cut their nickel pig iron (NPI) purchase price for next month and will roll forward their stainless steel prices. Furthermore, the seaborne market is struggling as anti-dumping measures come to disrupt trade flows in the region - none more so than the abrupt drop in Chinese exports destined for Taiwan during September.
