Why Africa is worth the challenge

Some years ago this reporter was invited to dinner with Randgold Resources Ltd while attending the annual Mining Indaba in Cape Town. It was one of those typically spectacular early-February Cape of Good Hope evenings, and managing director Mark Bristow had made a wise choice of restaurant. One could not help being mesmerised by the majestic Table Mountain as we viewed it from the north side of Table Bay. The mountain's famous cloudy "table cloth" was tumbling down into the city at sunset, a golden cascade that dispersed halfway down the mountainside.
