Outside of its planned expansion of Mt Isa in Queensland, the publicly-listed Xstrata has two major greenfields projects to Australia's north which should help boost the company's copper inventory well past 2020. Firstly there is the Frieda River joint venture in Papua New Guinea's north west quadrant. This sits 90 kilometres east of the OK Tedi mine and currently has a total mineral resource of 1.9 billion tonnes of ore grading 0.45% copper and 0.22 grams/t gold for a contained 8.6 million tonnes of copper and 14.3 million ounces of the precious metal.
