Australian politicians who want the nation's resources sector to undertake more value adding should not expect Rio Tinto Ltd to come to the party. During a recent seminar in Western Australia, executive director of the company and chief executive of its iron ore arm -Sam Walsh - made it clear the mining giant was concentrating on the continuous improvement of its core operations rather than pursuing downstream processing opportunities. Speaking during the In the Zone Business Forum at the University of WA, Walsh pointed to a number of challenges facing the state and said creative solutions were required.
