An aspiring iron ore producer in Western Australia's mid west region took its international steel making project a step forward recently when it secured a long term transport deal for the undertaking. Gindalbie Metals Ltd has signed an agreement for the provision of bulk rail haulage services for its Karara iron ore development in WA by QR Freight (QRF), the group national bulk freight haulage business for QR Ltd. Under the rail operations heads of agreement (HOA) - which has been signed by the joint venture company Karara Mining Ltd - QRF has been appointed as the exclusive provider of rail operations for the initial tonnages of magnetite concentrate (8 million tonnes per annum) and direct shipping ore (up to 3 Mtpa) to be produced by the Karara project.
