THE WORLD'S LARGEST zinc producer is confident consumption of the base metal will increase by around 50 percent by 2011. It is also expecting global zinc supply to rise by 8.1 percent during this year and a further 6.7 percent in 2008. These were two predictions made by the publicly-listed Xstrata during the recent Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada forum in Toronto. Speaking during the conference's opening commodities review, the company's Mark Patell told delegates there were three main traditional variables at work that were currently making the zinc market so attractive.
