The world's largest heavy minerals producer - Iluka Resources Ltd - should be perfectly positioned to take advantage of a favourable zircon market when it gets its much-anticipated Douglas project in Victoria completely up and running by the end of the year. Throughout the past few years the Western Australian-based mining house has bullishly maintained that zircon prices will continue to rise as global supply gaps widen. The company expects more than 100,000 tonnes of the sand is needed to refill the industry pipeline and return stocks to their normal levels. Furthermore, it has not really seen any new producers on the horizon which can significantly meet this production challenge.
