While completing his MBA at Monash University during the early 1990s, the New South Wales-born geologist wrote a dissertation looking at the global possibilities available to his then employer Dominion Mining Ltd. In his study, Turner concluded the best place to take the company - which had already established several gold mines in Western Australia - was the African continent.
