Footwall targets the key

About 57 million Canada dollars will be spent on exploration in Canada's famed Sudbury Basin this year. And out of that - according to Falconbridge Ltd regional geologist Scott McLean -- about 55 percent is to be directed at footwall targets. A co-discoverer of the Nickel Rim South discovery that is now being developed, McLean told PDAC convention delegates the basin, which is about 60 kilometres by 25 km in dimension, had "stood the test of time" after being discovered in 1883. Falconbridge is currently mining more than 13 million tonnes of ore per annum in the area. "We're seeing many other companies move here in search of ore," McLean said. "Our early exploration efforts focused Dn primarily contact deposits that offered potential for lower grade, large tonnage deposits.
