One group bridging the gap between industry and government when it comes to emergency management and response is the Industrial Foundation for Accident Prevention (IFAP). IFAP is a registered training organisation and is highly regarded for its safety and knowledge and expertise across all industry sectors. It offers nationally accredited training courses in the areas of crisis and emergency management, occupational health and safety, construction and equipment skills, sea survival and emergency response as well as fire safety and emergency response. It has two facilities - one in Western Australia (Perth) and the other in the Northern Territory (Darwin) - that offer underwater escape training in a helicopter simulator and training exercises inside a mock oilrig design. According to the IFAP centre for the management of major hazards' manager, Andrew Stanbury, the organisation has evolved in the last two years following the acquisition of the Australian branch of English emergency management organisation Link Associates.
