The Centre for Energy and Greenhouse 1 Technologies (CEGT) is investing in yet another bright, environmentally beneficial idea that has applications throughout Australia and overseas. The active reactor is an electronic device designed to overcome the problem of fading lamp brightness in high intensity discharge (HID) lamps mat are used for street, major road and freeway lighting as well as at freight terminals, shipping ports, airports, stadiums and in the heavy industrial world of mining. Street lighting plays an important role in public safety, but to do the job properly lamps must maintain a minimum brightness level. When lamps age with burning time, the light output reduces. However, at the end of their life, they still need to produce the minimum brightness level. New lamps therefore need to produce far more light man is required and use up more energy in the process.
