Judging from the recent Diggers & Dealers Mining Forum in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, the past year was an exceptional one for the Australian minerals sector when it came to making deals. But while the winner of the convention's 2005 Dealer of the Year Award (the publicly-listed BHP Billiton) was a worthy recipient of the gong, the mining giant's success meant that other just-as-suitable candidates had to miss out. And at the top of this list was arguably the odds-on favourite for the prize -- Oxiana Ltd.
