Asset Kinetics provides the innovative solution

As Sraits Resources Ltd commissions its new Whim Creek copper mine, a familiar exercise taking place behind the scenes to ensure the transport of sulphuric acid and copper cathode. Key inputs and outputs of mine operation are meticulously planned and orchestrated. Five years ago, Straits engaged Asset Kinetics to undertake a similar task at its Nifty copper operation (since acquired by Aditya Birla). Straits' objective was to significantly increase acid availability to enable higher copper output at the mine. The exercise was handled in an innovative way by Asset Kinetics, with specialised, in-house designed quad road trains, built to enable them to carry acid and copper to/from the mine in a single round trip. With four sulphuric acid tanker trailers and three copper carrying converter dollies between them, each road train is capable of carrying up to 132t of sulphuric acid or 96t of copper cathode in a single load. The road trains were specially modelled and approved for concessional loading. A cab-controlled central tyre inflation system, also designed and manufactured in-house, allows the pressure of all 98 tyres to be adjusted by the driver while under way to allow for different loading and road conditions.
