Lihir and Telfer lift the resource inventory for Newcrest

Aggressive exploration by Newcrest Mining Ltd allowed the Melbourne-based company to lift its mineral resources in the December quarter.Despite shedding the equity resources held following the divestment of Mount Rawdon and Cracow in Queensland, the company was able to lift group resources to 149.7 million ounces of gold and 20.04 tonnes of copper — a 2.6% lift in the gold inventory and a 0.7% rise in copper.The company's report for the half year to December, said the additions came from the Lihir Island operations in Papua New Guinea (600,000 oz of gold), Telfer West Dome (1.9 M oz gold and 70,000t copper) in Western Australia, the nearby Telfer Main Dome (1.2 M oz gold and 40,000t copper) and Namosi in Fiji (200,000 oz Au and 40,000t Cu).
