Old pits part of blueprint for longevity at Macraes

The three open cut mines that launched modern gold mining at New Zealand's Macraes mine up to 21 years ago and were subsequently filled-in have now been earmarked as part of the grand plan, based on known resources and reserves, to extend operations there until 2020. When those pits were mothballed it was known that ore grades were improving on the eastern plunge of the ore system - the same structural system now being mined at greater depth at the Frasers Underground mine from within the massive Frasers open cut mine.
