First gold from historic field in over 50 years

About 100 million dollors more expensive than expected and five years behind schedule, Bendigo Mining Ltd poured the first gold bar from its Kangaroo Flat mine in Bendigo in mid-July - the first gold production from the Bendigo Goldfield since 1954. The 250 ounce dore bar was produced during commissioning of the Kangaroo Flat processing plant, which will be ramped up during the September quarter. According to general manager of corporate development Tim Churcher, construction was about 95 percent complete around the time of the pour, "and we anticipate it will, by and large, be completed by the end of July".
