Since then, the magazine has gone on to become Australia's leading commentator and reporter on the Australian resources industry. Starting life as Gold Gazette under the stewardship of then-editor Ross Louthean, it was published fortnightly until December 2003, when it evolved to become the Gold & Minerals Gazette, following an amalgamation with Minerals Gazette and The Australian Mining Times, It is now published monthly. The first edition featured a headline about the Australian gold industry gearing up to fight against the possible introduction of a gold tax which was to be the hot topic, at the Hawke-Keating tax summit in July 1985.
