Temperature a key factor

Research has shown that the presence of sulphides and other electroactive minerals in a grinding media can significantly increase corrosive wear in ball mills. Furthermore, given there is an increase in wear as temperatures rise, it is oxidation - not oxygen diffusion - that is the rate controlling step. These were two of the conclusions reached by the department of mechanical engineering at McGill University in Canada, which constructed a small, rubber-lined batch laboratory mill (measuring 200 by 300 millimetres) to carry out its corrosion tests.
