There have been further I indications that China will be expanding its domestic mining sector as its government tries to achieve some economic form of sustainable development. However, it seems unlikely this will satisfy the country's insatiable appetite for foreign imports like iron ore, coal, alumina and copper. In its second annual global mining review, Pricewaterhouse Coopers highlighted the fact China was now calling for increased investment in mineral exploration and production, improving its regulatory environment, streamlining the approval processes and promoting the development of mining rights. But while the country had huge exploration potential, it was graced with few world-class resources in base metals, with many current mining operations approaching ore reserve completion.
