Gene Bissell has been in one place since the year 2000, as CEO of AmeriGas (Valley Forge, Pa.). But he spent much of the early part of his career on the move. After graduating from Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Mich, in 1976, he worked in the state of Michigan's energy office. Then he earned an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. He worked for UGI-the parent company of AmeriGas- based in Philadelphia for seven years. For two of those years, he was transferred to Martinez, Calif, to manage an AmeriGas industrial gases and welding supply store that sold propane and other products.
