The cash to three-month backwardation tightened to $10-20/tonne last week, which shows that shorts are still having to pay up to either roll their positions forward or close them out. Given that the physical market is awash with metal, it is ironic that the LME nearby dates are as tight as they are. The backwardated market runs from cash out to the October date.
