Optical disc cartridges for archive data storage are made up of multi-slot arrays, where each slot holds a disc. An archive data storage system should tolerate some level of misalignment between the disc and the cartridge slot. However, misalignment can lead to disc crashes against the slot walls or into other discs, and is often caused by poor positioning of the disc-transfer robot. Therefore, detecting misalignment is important to ensure the reliability of optical archive data storage systems. Here, we analyze the misalignment and propose a dual-sensing method based on a 4F imaging system. The method can simultaneously detect the top and bottom parts of the slots using only one detector.
