The nearby backwardation remains the centre of attention in the copper market. Although the cash to three-month backwardation has not exceeded its peak of $89/tonne recorded early last week, it has remained around $50/tonne as a single entity still holds 50-79% of LME warrants. There is speculation over the identity of the dominant holder but more interesting is their likely motivation.
