The SHFE-LME arbitrage window opened again last week as international prices fell more sharply than those in China. As long as the arbitrage opportunity is there, copper is likely to be attracted into the country, but it remains to be seen whether there is the appetite to consume it. We have highlighted previously the mixed signals we are seeing about demand conditions in China since February.
