The sideways trading range that dominated the nickel market throughout the second half of 2013 has given way to a slight upward bias this year. It is underpinned by expectations that the Indonesian ore export ban will ultimately tighten up the market. Last week, with sentiment upbeat across the base metals, we said that we were looking for the nickel price to add a higher high to the series of higher lows it has built since January.
