Horsehead, Shell Extend Option On Pennsylvania Site

Horsehead Corp. and Shell signed “an amended and restationed option and purchase agreement” on the Horsehead facility in Monaco, Pennsylvania. Shell had until December 31 on its current agreement extension to make a decision on whether to purchase the site. The latest extension agreement allows Shell to continue its evaluation of the Monaca site, located about 40 kilometers (24 miles) northwest of Pittsburgh. It also allows for the start of demolition activities at the site, with Shell covering the expenses, according to the announcement. The demolition is expected to begin at certain portions of the site sometime in the first quarter of 2014.
